Drift Nets were originally anchored in flowing water for capture of macroinvertebrates that have migrated or been dislodged from the bottom substrates into the current. Aquatic Sampling Company offers many aperture sizes for the collection of a wide range of organisms. Drift organisms are important to the stream ecosystem because they are prey for stream fish and thus should be considered in the study of fish populations. The net frame is placed with the mouth upstream. As drift moves down with the current, it is trapped to be examined later to determine composition and amount. Drift Nets are listed in "Standard Methods" and used by the EPA and USGS. Nets can be used singularly or in groups with the nets placed side-by-side, anchored to the bottom with stakes. Frame and stakes are constructed of 316 Stainless Steel. Net is durable Nitex® nylon and measures 40" long with a net mouth of 12" x 18". Includes two 18" net stakes. Aquatic Sampling Company offers versions with or without sampling buckets. We also offer a Floating Drift Net Assembly for use in streams deeper than 18". Note: Not all Drift Nets are made the same. Our nets use real 316 Stainless Steel frames and stakes for long life. Don't settle for lesser quality materials at a higher price! Note: Nitex® mesh is used where available and appropriate. We reserve the right to use other branded mesh where aperture size or availability requires. Nitex® is a brand name of heat set mesh with tight tolerances and is specifically name in protocols because it was the first such product. If any modern substitution is used, it will be of matching quality and specifications.
